Through winter snow, the scarf’s a flying

Growing up I was absolutely convinced that one day I would be a famous starlet. Never mind that I was as shy as kids came and had never joined a single theater class; I knew I was destined for stardom. Well, I came to the realization that I probably will never be a star, but I decided that wouldn’t stop me from playing out my fantasies when it came to how I dress. I think nothing is more old Hollywood than a great silk scarf tied around one’s neck, so today I want to show you how to tie your scarf in a few more styles based off of movie genres.

I call this look my “Western.” It’s one of the simplest ways to wear a scarf, but also one of the most elegant. Simply fold your square scarf in half, and with the triangle point facing down, lay it against your chest. Wrap the two ends once around your neck and tie them underneath the triangle’s point in the front. Viola!

The next one is my “War Film.” It reminds me of a sailor’s handkerchief updated in a modern, feminine way. To recreate this look, fold your scarf in half, and proceed in folding it over until it is one long, skinny rectangle. Lay both ends over your neck. With one end, tie a knot close to the base of your neck. Take the other end and pull it through the knot.

The last look is my “Psychedelic Film.” This is a great way to add color and texture to any shirt or dress. Fold your scarf in half and lay the triangle point facing down against your chest. Taking the two ends, criss-cross them behind your back and tie a small knot around your neck.

Play around with silk scarves to add elegance and fun to your basic outfits like my high-waisted jeans, plum colored knit top, yellow skinny belt, and brown oxford heels. Enjoy!
