Growing up every spring my mom would have me and my sister help her fill our pots and planters with flowers and foliage and the occasional edible plant. These have always been one of my fondest memories, bonding amongst the Tie ladies and feeling satisfaction whenever my plants survived longer than a few months. I was particularly proud of a patch of cucumbers (albeit they were the size of pickles) that I grew all by myself. Needless to say now that I am off in my own home with my husband, I’ve decided to keep the yearly planting tradition. This year I chose pansies, perennials, an azalea bush, parsley, thyme, rosemary, spearmint, yellow bell peppers and marigolds.
In a few weeks I will be able to go get my rose topiary to complete my little garden, but here’s a glimpse at what I’ve accomplished so far:

That bag was seriously almost as big as me, Jony found it quite funny. I also bought a pink spade that donates towards the breast cancer foundation, love it!

very nice Maria! It just so happens I started up my herb pots and started redoing my flowers yesterday. I replanted my sweet basil and thai basil from last year. I love fresh herbs!
Couple suggestions from what I’ve learned last year. You probably want to split the herb pot up. The spearmint and thyme will eventually(more so the spearmint) take over that pot and snuff the other herbs out. The spearmint grows like crazy(almost like a weed). Both the thyme, spearmint, and rosemary, over time, produces a very woody stem. Once the plants get bigger, you can propagate them into different pots to give to family and friends. Let me know if you need help or have questions!
PS. Did you get that soil from costco?
PSS. Is that Italian parsley?

Thanks for the help Darren! That’s so funny we got to gardening on the same day. I did get the soil from costco, and that is Italian parsley!

I love Herbs we were growning cilantro, basil and rosemary. I say *were because as it turns out cilantro and basil don’t like too much direct sunlight so make sure you don’t do what I did and keep them in the sun all day long
We started our garden last week and we need to add a few more flowers and herbs. I love spring time! Thanks for the extra inspiration for herbs Maria

Oh no! Hahaha. Our patio gets a bit of sun until around 2, then it’s in the shade, so hopefully they’ll like that. When and how much do you usually pick when you want to use your herbs?

for my herbs i usually just pick as much as i need for each meal, so if i’m making rosemary chicken i’ll usuually cut like a 3″ piece then wash it and cut it up. I only cook for 2 so the herbs last forever!

I can’t wait to get a garden of pots started on our patio. I also want one of those topsy-turvy things to grow tomatoes and/or strawberries!
Hope to see you grow more food in your space, seeing as you have so much room!

I was eyeing those tomato grate things myself! I love fresh tomatoes, the one’s in the supermarket never taste right. Ugh it may look like a bit of room, but Oliver has already destroyed one of my pots (the king of the backyard) so I’m not so sure about expanding for now hahaha.

You could plant a little herb garden in your house! I’m probably going to do that with my left overs
