I’ve realized a lot of people tend to shy away from the green movement because they believe it’s an all or nothing lifestyle transformation. Or, they feel like being green is just for hippy liberals who live in communes, eat nothing but organically grown soy beans, and sing songs around low carbon emitting campfires. Because of these misconceptions, in the next few posts I have decided to create a series I call “It’s Easy Being Green.” Being ecologically conscious can be done in simple and often pain-free steps that don’t require you totally giving up those hot pairs of Jimmy Choos and a Starbucks coffee from time to time.

Girl fight over SMS bags
In today’s post, I want to discuss an event that Harvest Church in Concord, Ca. is putting on that is not only green, but is also recession-friendly. Two Sundays from now “Style Exchange” will be hosted in my house, where girls of all ages, body types, and income brackets will meet to swap their “gently loved” clothing. I will be stepping in as a style consultant to show how to reinvent some of the clothes to fit in with falls fashion trends. Everything is completely free and everything is completely reused. This is no sweat way to be green, to create new friendships, and to get some really cute free clothing. Purchasing or exchanging previously owned items helps to reduce production and waste pollution, the harvesting of textiles, and even gas emission by delivery trucks. It’s a simple and fun way to participate in the green movement and I encourage you to have or attend “Style Exchange” parties from time to time.
