I love honey. There’s something so earthy, raw, sustaining about that golden syrup and I can’t get enough. According to some science and a lot of old wive’s tales, honey is really good for your health and beauty. Not only does it taste great, but it is a good natural immunization booster, antioxidant, and energizer. It helps ailments such as sore throats, and is a good alternative to other sweetners (our body’s tolerance to honey is significantly better than to sucrose or glucose alone). On top of that, honey is also suppose to make your hair and skin glow.
Everyday I make sure to have a spoonful with my tea. I’m not sure if I’ve noticed an increased “glowiness” in my hair and skin, but I do find it helps me wake up in the mornings (a few years ago I decided against coffee in the morning when I started getting too dependent on it). I’ve also found that it soothes my sore throat better than any other home remedies I’ve tried. Because of all the supposed benefits of honey, I do recommend you try adding it into your diet, if for nothing else than a replacement for sugar in your tea. For the best results, look for pure honey, especially those found at farmer’s markets.
Do you know of any other benefits of honey? What brand do you like? Got any good recipes that include honey? How else do you use it? Enjoy!

I absolutely love honey!! My mother in law brings me fresh orange blossom honey every year from up near Chico. Some of her family has hives and harvest it throughout the year. It is so yummy and you can really taste the orange blossom. So good!! When I don’t have the orange blossom honey around, I go for the Trader Joe’s Honey with the Comb. The honeycomb is edible, and the kids think it’s fun! I put honey in everything, from my Herbal Unwind tea with African Honeysuckle to my homemade Peanut Butter Granola Bars. It’s great in homemade balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing, or as a substitute to sugar in so many things!! Thanks for the post…you always have such great things to talk about!!

I love honey too! I’ve seen a couple skin remedies recently. One was a scrub of EVOO, honey, and sugar. The other remedy was to exfoliate a scratch/scab/zit with baking soda then dab honey on it, cover with a bandage overnight, and voila! The redness and puffiness are almost gone in the morning! I haven’t tried the second one yet. From what I understand honey has antibacterial and humectant properties that help with skin issues.

Wow, that sounds like a nice green remedy I’ll have to try out. I’m sure using so much benzyl peroxide is not the greatest for my skin in the long run. Thanks for the suggestions!

Love honey! We use it everyday… Jaden has three pieces of “bread, and butter and honey” every morning. Use it as a part of marinades, dressings and so much more.
