Today’s Friday Fave is not the most glamorous of items, BUT it has been a serious lifesaver! If you have pets, kids, or clumsy friends, the Bissell SpotBot will be your new pal. We got Oliver when he was just 3 months old and not yet potty-trained. Needless to say, our carpet became his go-to toilet for awhile (praise God he is finally trained!). I tried everything to get the stains out: baking powder, vinegar and water, stain remover, but nothing quite did the trick (though I highly recommend baking powder and vinegar to deodorize, and for less saturated stains it works pretty well in an eco-friendly way). After a twitter friend recommended me looking into the SpotBot, I decided it was worth the investment to try it out ($120 on Amazon – affiliate link!).
Goodbye stains! Even the marks that hadn’t come up after three days of scrubbing were gone! Two settings (one for surface stains and the other for deep-set ones) and a detachable handheld nozzle allow me to clean virtually every soft surface – even my car seats! The best part is you don’t have to manually use it – just set it on top of the stain and it does all the work for you.
The few cons? It isn’t a steam-vac so the cleaned area remains a bit wet (not enough to mold) for a little while, it goes through formula pretty quickly, and I have yet to find an organic/natural formula (if you know of one, please let me know!). Measured against the fact that it is the only thing that has saved my carpet after days of experimenting, it’s well worth it!
Are you a SpotBot fan? How do you get rid of tough stains and odors? Do you know of a green carpet cleaner formula? Let me know!

We use vinegar and baking soda. Fun to use (volcano carpet!) and after scrubbing and letting it dry you can vacuum up the leftover baking soda. I used to swear by Resolve Foaming Carpet Cleaner (shit is amazing) but now with a pup and soon a baby, I don’t feel comfortable using chemicals somewhere my loved ones will spend so much time.

Yup totally agree about the Resolve. I haven’t tried the mixture of both vinegar and baking soda, just one or the other, so maybe that’s why I’ve only had so-so results. Plus when I vacuumed up the baking soda, it coated the inside of my vacuum, any suggestions on how to clean that out?
