Today I wanted to feature a book that I just finished reading. A couple of weeks ago my mom lent me her copy of The Help (written by Kathryn Stockett), a story following three different women in Jackson Mississippi during the 1960s. Two of the women are black maids, the third a white college graduate who doesn’t seem to fit in with her married League sisters anymore. The story captures the tumultuous life of being an outcast in a southern town, where ostracizing is the least punishment one could hope for. I highly recommend this book to everyone – not just those who are interested in this time period or the hardships it had, but simply for the beautiful way Kathryn explores different women and their tales that are surprisingly easy to relate to. If you are looking for a good read, definitely try this fictional novel out.
Kathryn’s inspiration for the book came directly from her life experiences growing up in Mississippi with a black maid. You can read a preview portion of the book here.
Do you have any book recommendations for me to check out (I’m open to pretty much any genre, reading is my passion!)? If you have read The Help, what did you think? Let me know!

Hahaha! I feel ya. Non-fiction tends to take me longer to get through in general – I tried reading Marie Antoinette and I couldn’t make it lol.

That was a great book. I have so many suggestions but everyone’s taste is different. One I really enjoyed was “The Weight of Silence”. I love Jodi Picoult’s books. Another very interesting but at the same time disturbing book is “A Reliable Wife” by Goolrick.

I just finished reading “A Model Summer” and I loved it. It’s about a fifteen year old girl from Sweden who gets a chance to be a model in Paris during her summer vacation. The writing was really good. At times, you felt so sad and embarrassed and at others you laugh out loud. If you’re at all interested in modeling or the fashion world, this book is a pretty good insight.

Thank you! Is that by the same lady who judged on America’s Next Top Model? How interesting!
