Friday Fave: Deer Tick

No, I am not talking about a tiny pest that survives on deer and the occasional human. I’m talking about an amazing folksy rock band, whose sounds are perfect for welcoming in the sunshine, morning dew, and the feel of warm soil on your feet. Formed in 2004, I recently discovered them when I paid a visit to my favorite music listening cite, Project Playlist. They were hidden amongst a playlist filled with mainstream rock and rap hits (part of what I love about Project P is anyone can add to their public playlists – some real gems can be found). I was instantly hooked on their song, 20 mile, and proceeded in looking up more of their work.

While I’m generally not a fan of any type of country, I can stand music that reminds me of old rock and roll (think Johnny Cash). These guys are reminiscent of music you would have heard at Woodstock in the 70s (both of my parents’ tastes were definitely passed down to me – you should see some of my Dad’s old vinyls…perhaps another blog post). You can find me sunning on my patio with the pupster, some ice tea, and these guys playing in the background this summer. I definitely recommend you trying them out, and have included some of the songs I’ve fallen in love with below. Enjoy!

Currently they have three albums out, War Elephant (2007), Born On Flag Day (2009), and The Black Dirt Sessions (2010).

What music are you listening to right now? What bands are perfect for summer? And how are you liking Deer Tick? Let me know!
