Candy Striper: Get these cute striped nails!

Well it looks like this week is going to be a DIY overload, I hope you don’t mind! I wanted to share with you guys a quick and easy way to spice up your manicures. Back when I was in middle school, I discovered the power of Scotch tape and nail polish. One of my favorite looks that I’ve tried is a simple two-toned stripe. Today I used two fairly similar shades of pink to give it a cotton candy effect, but you can use bold opposites to create something a bit more mod. Check out this three-step method for totally adorable nails!

What you need:

  • Two shades of nail polish
  • Scotch Tape
  • Scissors

Step One:

Here I am wearing China Glaze's Summer Rain.

Paint your nails a base color to begin with. I recommend starting with the lighter color – it will be a lot easier getting the darker color to show up over it.  Make sure to let it dry completely before going on to the next step to prevent your nails from getting chipped by the tape!

Step Two:

Cut out a strip of your Scotch tape to the width you would like your stripe to be. Place the strip where you would like your stripes to show up – I placed mine on the right side of each nail. Make sure that there are no bubbles in the tape – you don’t want any polish getting through! Realistically you can use any type of tape, but I prefer Scotch for two reasons: 1. because of the serrated edge it’s easy to cut same-sized strips, and 2. it’s not SO sticky so that it will take off the base coat beneath it.

Step Three:

Paint  the top color over your entire nail.  Let it dry completely, and then gently remove the tape. Viola!

I used China Glaze's Strawberry Fields as my top coat.

So what do you guys think, is this something you would try? Which color combo do you think would look amazing (I bet red and white would be amazing!)? How do you spice up your nails? Let me know!
