Bringing a little Summer into the cold

My absolute favorite question a subscriber asked was how to take a summer dress and make it wearable for winter. Not only is it a great way to stretch your wardrobe to work all year, but it also adds a splash of color and light-weight fabric layering that creates a lovely whimsical look I can’t deny. Watch how I take one of my favorite summer dresses and transform it into a great cold season look.

Summer to Winter Dress 1I love this Urban Outfitters dress I got a few years ago. For summer I usually pair it with my Gap espadrilles and a cute belt.

summer to winter dress 2The first step in making this outfit cold weather appropriate is adding some tights. I paired my dress with some wine toned, thick knit tights from UO that picks up some of the hints of raspberry red in the dress’s print (which by the way is multi colored pears, love!).

summer to winter dress 3Next I added my new favorite sweater, a thick white cocoon cut knit (also from UO ;) ). I took the belt I had on previously and placed it on the outside of the cardi to give it some shape, and paired it all with lace up, rugged brown boots from DSW.
