Elle’s December photo spread featuring layers upon layers of knit pieces caught a hold of my heart and didn’t let go. Every color was present, from juicy blues, reds, purples, and oranges to dark grays and tweeds that called up the image of Mr. Poe. Not only was the aesthetic terribly chic and Oliver Twist-inspired, but it also looked like the most comfortable batch of apparel I have ever seen. In honor of such an amazing shoot, I decided to try my hand at risky layering, with bright colors and slightly eccentric pairings.
I wore my favorite yellow sweater asymmetrically by buttoning my buttons off one hole. I paired it with a berry colored knit long sleeve and a bright scarf. I then put together a houndstooth mini-skirt, nude lace tights, gray cut-out socks, a nude heels. I felt part old-Hollywood, part crazy cat lady. So maybe this look doesn’t translate the best for everyone’s tastes, but you can use the same concepts in you outfits. Pair the sweater, scarf, and shirt with a pair of dark-wash straight jeans and a pair of boots, and you’ve got a bright and cheerful layered look. Enjoy!
Here are some of the Elle photos that I fell in love with:

Wool knit dress, Salvatore Ferragamo; cashmere skirt, Autumn Cashmere; wool knit hat, Chanel; wool tights, Sonia Rykiel; wool knit boots, Vivienne Westwood

Here’s something you should address: how to wear fishnets without looking like a prostitute.
