A Helping Hand: Be Bold!

As promised, today is my first day of the “Helping Hand” series. I want to start off with a topic that has become a passion of mine lately. For some, it brings sheer terror when having to confront it. For others, they simply hide in the “dark.” What could I possibly be talking about? … Color! As fall and winter slowly stretch out their chilly hands, many of us pull out every black item we own and call it a day. How boring! As color gradually fades from Mother Nature’s wardrobe, why should it from ours? Here are a few tips of what colors will look amazing on you, and what colors pair as nicely together as orange juice and champagne:

pinknblueTiffany Blue and Pink: I love love love this combination! It’s bright and vibrant without being vulgar. This blue is such a universal color and can be paired with an array of hues, from soft yellow or cheerful tangerines, to a subtle lime green.

Royal Purple and Green: Another favorite pairing of mine. Avoid looking like a grape by choosing greens with a hint of gold to them. Jewel tones such as this purple are particularly chic for the winter time.

Red and white: Always bold, always hot. Enough said.

Girls with monotone complexions (such as myself), for example chestnut eyes paired with chocolate locks, should always play up jewel tones. Avoid wearing only neutrals, which can make you look dull. A helpful tip when trying out your own color combinations is to look at the color wheel:

A complementary color scheme is using opposite colors on the color wheel to create contrast. Avoid clashing by choosing one dominate color and one accent color. Pairing contrasting colors with a neutral (beige, white, black or brown) also helps keep you from looking like an overly done Easter egg.
