Special interview with The Clothes Horse

May 17th, 201010:00 am @

I am absolutely loving these interviews so far! Getting to know and connecting to other bloggers out there has been such a pleasure, and actually very encouraging when it comes to continuing my own blog. This week the lovely Rebecca from The Clothes Horse gives us a peek into the creative mind behind the beautiful outfits. Her blog is a true inspiration, from her always intriguing outfits to her quirky stop motion animations. Check out the interview here:

MV: Tell us a bit about yourself! How old are you, where are you from, favorite band, food, and pass time?

TCH: I’m 23 and I’m from all over. I’ll try to explain briefly, but my father is in the army and basically I have moved every 3 years since I was 6 months old, so I don’t feel attached to any one place. I’ve lived in 7 different states and 3 different countries total. Right now, I’m in Washington State and I’ve nearly been here for one year! I’m not sure I have a favorite band; I generally like somewhat lyrical artists and the Decemberists is definitely in my top list. For food, I really love curry and every version of it–India, Japanese, Thai, etc. I like to pass free time by reading, doodling, and exploring whatever area I wind up in!

MV: When did you start blogging, and why?

TCH: I started blogging in summer of 2007 right after I returned from a study abroad in Japan to my college in rural PA. I was feeling very starved creatively and rather trapped, so I started blogging to connect with the other bloggers I admired and felt I had things in common with. My blog became this great form of expression that I didn’t have otherwise and also made it possible to “get to know” all sorts of amazing people with similar interests.

MV: What can people expect to find at your blog? What do you tend to focus on?

TCH: My blog is a personal fashion/style blog. One often finds my outfit shots which I shoot myself out in the wilderness around where I live. I also like to post on art, old movies, graffiti, editorials, the adventures of my Kidrobot Labbit, and basically anything that I find inspiring; there’s definitely a lot of things outside the traditional realm of “fashion.”

MV: What keeps you motivated to continue blogging?

TCHThe main motivation is just really loving it. I don’t need a push to post frequently or to keep going, because I find it fun. It is a huge time commitment, but I tend to be obsessive about my hobbies and I’ll spend hours on things I love just because I enjoy them. I do feel a bit of an obligation to my subscriber base, but mostly that makes me want to produce quality posts.

MV: What is one tip you have for bloggers?

TCH: Everyone probably says this, but blog about what you love. If you enjoy what you’re blogging about you can sustain that forever–and the only reason to turn your blog into your job is because you love it!
