One of my favorite DIY projects! Enjoy:

What you will need:

  • Cotton Rope
  • Thread
  • A sewing needle
  • Pins
  • Beads or trinkets to decorate the necklace
  • Jewelry clasps

Step One:

Because I wanted a thicker rope like the one used in the Anthropologie necklace, I sewed two strands of rope together. If you don’t need to do this step, simply cut out about a yard of rope.

Step Two:

Pin the rope into the shape you want it to be. The shape I used here is a circle, five loops, and another circle. You can make yours look more bunched and knotted like the Anthropologie necklace opposed to my more symmetrical style. Don’t get discouraged if it takes you a couple of times to pin it exactly how you would like!

Step Three:

Sew your pinned rope into shape. I just did simple hand stitches, nothing fancy.

Step four:

Once your rope is sewn into shape, figure out what placement you would like to arrange your beads or trinkets. I choose these gold-ish amber colored beads to keep the natural nautical feeling going.

Step Five:

Attach your embellishments with simple hand stitches. I wish I had colored thread to blend better with my beads, but you live and learn.

Step Six:

Sew the ends of your rope to keep it from fraying too much. Finally, attach your jewelry clasps.

Voila! A trendy little rope necklace. I think if I were to do it again I would keep it a bit more haphazard and bunched like the Anthropologie necklace, and find a different type of rope, but i do like the way it turned out:

I paired mine with a striped sweater from H&M’s blue line, love it!

Would you be interested in purchasing one of these babies as a kit or product? I think when I get back I’ll list a few revamped and perfected ones on my Etsy! Let me know!
