Last week I featured this little bow tie beauty inspired by UO’s design in my outfit post. I thought I’d show you all how I made this super easy piece with some fabric scraps and a safety pin – an easy way to add a little whimsy prep to your look! No worries, you don’t need to use as bold of fabric as I did (you all know I’m a sucker for color lol). It would look lovely in a charcoal grey or rose pink for example, and I love how UO shows it being worn as a hair accessory as well. So follow along in this 5 minute project and enjoy!
What you will need:
Step One:
Cut out a strip of fabric roughly 5″x30″.
Step Two:
Tie your fabric into a floppy bow, with the loops and ends falling at the same length.
Step Three:
Slip your safety pin into the tied loop in the back of your bow. Once placed, you’re all done!
Simple enough anyone can do! Clip it on a basic shirt to add a little dimension, wear it as a secured hair ribbon, pin it to your belt for some flair, or make a few to place on the front of your sandals…the possibilities are endless!
How would you wear this sweet bow tie? Have you done any amazing DIY projects lately you’d like to share? Let me know!

This project is something that we all may have thought of doing before but didn’t feel it would turn out so good like you have shown us. It really brings added dimension and interest to your outfit. What is a very nice outfit becomes a head turner.

That’s an amazingly easy but fabulous DIY! I’ve always thought that UO accessories were ridiculously overpriced for their simplicity, and you’ve proved it here. Though the “I can so make that” mindset is pretty empowering, too!
Also digging the colors against that neutral palette you’re rocking! (For some reason those two verbs in the last sentence make it seem punny…)

Wow that’s beautiful! How do you slip in the pin like that though?

Hey Aggie! So in the back of the bow there should be a little loop (you know how when you tie a present you stick your finger below the bow to keep it taunt? Right in there). You slip it in there!

for two years I had to wear a bow tie on my shirts at private school… we just had to have it on, we came up with so many ways to wear it. Very creative Maria!

This is a really cool way to look fashionable. At the same time, you wouldn’t have to buy new accessories. Like if I had a black scarf or hanky, I can turn it into a black bow tie. Really cool!

Do you know how to make a Turban scarf? I loved it soooo much. I can’t seem to find any at this time and I’m deciding to make my own. Thank you
