Special Interview with Poppy Coburn

April 26th, 201010:00 am @

If you haven’t heard, I’m starting a new thing here at my blog where I feature interviews with other amazing bloggers – basically a more involved blogroll to help build our growing community. I will be featuring writers from all walks of life – from the experienced pro to the up-and-coming rookie. If you would like to participate, check out this post for details, and shoot me an email at Maria@BachmansSparrow.com.

First up we have the lovely Poppy Coburn (see her blog here). A UK dweller, Poppy embodies sweet, British style, and shares my love for vintage finds. But enough talk, check out the interview!

Poppy Coburn

MV: Tell us a bit about yourself! How old are you, where are you from, favorite band, food, and pass time (I find these three subjects say loads about a person!)?

PC: I’m twenty-one, twenty-two this May – I really don’t feel like I am though! I’m from Bedfordshire in the UK. I spend most of my time in Cheltenham where I study though. It’s a really pretty spa town.

Ahh, my favourite ‘band’ right now would have to be two Korean groups called Big Bang and 2NE1. I fell into KPop music last summer and I’m thoroughly embracing it haha. KPop aside, I’ve been a life long lover of The Who, Bruce Springsteen and anything Motown related thanks to my dad’s influence.

My favourite food is a tie between fish and stir-fry. I’m a massive stir-fry eater. It’s so healthy and you can do pretty much anything with it.

When I’m not in Uni, or working I like to pass my time attempting to teach myself something new, whether it is self-teaching myself a language, catching up on sleep, attempting to knit/sew or writing. It’s always been my dream to become a published writer. I read a lot too. I’m a creature of habit haha so you’ll find me doing one or the other if I’m not with friends or rooting around for vintage treasures.

MV: When did you start blogging, and why?

PC: I’ve been reading blogs for years, and always wanted to start my own one. I didn’t know what to focus on, and then when I came to university they asked us to keep blogs to develop or journalistic and writing skills. I kept a blog during my first year of university, but it was based mainly on news stories.

I grew up on a staple diet of films from the 40s, 50s and 60s – all the Gene Kelly musicals especially. Growing up weekends were spent with my dad and if we weren’t out and about doing things we’d watch films all day. I genuinely think the gorgeous costumes the women wore in those films influenced my taste in clothing and why I’m in love with vintage.

A fashionista in the making

My ‘Poppy Coburn’ blog grew from that and quickly became something I enjoy doing so much. I’ve always had a great love of fashion, so I incorporated this, and my other loves into the blog. It’s quite handy that I live in an all girl house, as my housemates are happy to appear in it – we all have such a diverse fashion sense from each other that I feel it gives a nice layer to it. I try to blog at least every two days. Considering I only started it in February of this year, it’s already become a big part of my life!

MV: What can people expect to find at your blog? What do you tend to focus on?

PC: People can expect to find posts about fashion – I tend to focus mainly on dresses and vintage. I’m a dress fiend!

I like to write about anything I’m a lover of, so there’ll be rambles about anything from my daily life, my KPop obsession, beautifully stylish boys, my love of literature and history to my hopes, dreams and inspirations.

I’m also working on featuring other bloggers, street style posts and vintage shops I adore, but this won’t come into existence until summer when I have a bit more time!

MV: What is one tip you have for bloggers?

PC: Don’t worry about the comment count; it’s not about that! Enjoy writing your blog – I think if you genuinely enjoy writing it, it will come across to those who read it, and they’ll follow you if they enjoy it too.
