So whenever we can’t find anything to watch at night, my husband and I watch Hoarders On Demand. It is one of the most disturbing shows I have ever watched, but it’s very interesting and I really feel for the people, especially the one’s who have faced loss and can’t get rid of their loved one’s possessions. One thing is for certain though, I always feel like cleaning the house and throwing away my junk after each episode.
One of the worst episodes featured a family who had an infestation of bed bugs. Oh golly, it was horrible to see all the little creatures in their beds. The infestation was so bad the entire family would sleep outside in tents. While we may not deal with that extensive of a problem, we all sleep with dust mites. Dust mites are tiny little pests who love eating our dead skin, and causes horrible respiratory issues, boogers (lol!), and itchy eyes. So today I want to give you a few tips on how to eliminate as many of those nasty mites as possible.
- Put a dust mite cover around your mattress and pillow. You can get them in unbleached, undyyed organic cotton, and help to lock out mites from deep penetration.
- If you were ever to use hot water when doing laundry, this is the time. Wash your pillow cases, mattress pads, blankets, sheets, etc. in hot water. Comforters and pillows should be washed every three months, and pillows should be replaced once a year.
- Vacuum your mattresses, box springs, and headboards at least once a month.
- Don’t snack in bed; dust mites enjoy crumbs!
While it’s impossible to get rid of all mites, taking these steps helps to reduce their numbers, leaving you having a better and healthier nights rest!. Enjoy!
Do you have any other tips on how to rid your bed of dust mites? What other places are hot spots for these pesky creatures?
