Off_wut is a hilarious LJ forum that I post on from time to time. The other day I posted about my contest as well as asking anyone who wanted to contribute to my blog to let me know. Jasmine is a wutter with an amazing personal blog (which you can check out here) that also includes a great recipe or two from time to time. She offered to lend me one of her fave concoctions to share with you all, enjoy!

Jasmine’s Homemade Cinnamon Buns
I love baking around the holidays because there is something about the warmth of fresh out the oven treats clashing with the cold outdoors that makes everything feel so…comfortable.
Cinnamon buns are relatively easy homemade treats to make if you have a grasp of basic baking procedures, and they make your home smell amazing. Since I promised my friends some sort of treat tomorrow, I decided to post the recipe for the buns along with the recipe for the glaze as part of my holiday saga. It is a great treat for friends or family.
Cinnamon Buns:
Dough:
1 pkg of active yeast
1 c. milk or water
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
1/3 c. butter (melted)
1. Dissolve 1 pkg. yeast in 1 c. milk or water
(Note: The liquid must be about 110°F – 115°F to activate the yeast. If you are using water, put your sink tap to the hottest temperature and it will do the trick)
2. Combine 1/2c. sugar, 1/3 melted butter, and 1tsp. salt in a bowl
3. Add your dissolved yeast/water into the dry mixture
4. Add (one cup at a time) 3 1/2 c. – 4c. flour
5. Mix until a soft dough is formed
4. Knead on a floured surface
5. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let the dough proof until doubled in size. (about and hour and a half – two hours)
Alternatively, you can put the dough in the fridge and finish the rest of the recipe the next day

Cinnamon/Sugar Mixture:
1 c. brown sugar
if you don’t have brown sugar try 1 c. sugar and 1 1/2tsp. of molasses (regular old pancake syrup works too!)
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter (softened)
1. Combine in a bowl
2. When your dough has finished proofing roll it on a floured surface until it is a large rectangle
3. Spread the cinnamon sugar mixture on the dough
4. Roll the dough tightly
5.With seam side down, cut dough crosswise with thin sharp knife into 12 equal slices
4. Cover with plastic wrap and let the rolls sit for another 45 minutes
5. Preheat you oven to 350°F
6. Bake until tops are golden brown (approx. 20 minutes)

Frosting:
3 – 4 oz. cream cheese
1 – 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar (depending on taste and consistency)
2 tbsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1. Beat the ingredients with an electric mixture until a frosting has formed (easy, right?)
2. Pull your buns out the oven and spread the frosting on while warm to melt
Makes: 12 buns
