I think the first movie I saw Dakota Fanning in was War of the Worlds. I thought something about her was a bit off – she was an old soul in a young body. The more I learned about her though, the more I appreciated her acting. She definitely plays the role of an aged youth well, but keeps a sense of charming innocence about her. I’m excited to see Runaways (about the female 70s rock band by the same name), and when I found out she was the voice for the English version of My Neighbor Totoro, I was sold.
Although only 16, Dakota has an evolving fashion sense that I believe will only become more refined. Right now I’m enjoying the rocker-chic style she’s shooting for currently. See how to get this trendy outfit for less:
Forever21 black skinny jeans, $9.50. I like that these jeans are slightly cropped – that’s a good length to pair with calf high boots to keep them from bunching up.
American Apparel l/s tee, $20.00.
JC Penny puffer jacket, $39.99 (the fur is removable!).
Urban Outfitters grey beret, $24.00.
Gap scarf, $19.99. I chose a patterned scarf to help give some interest to a very neutral color schemed.
Mia Marion shoe from Piperlime, $90. While this shoe is not exactly alike, they both share a wedged heel and a peep-toe (which I love!). Wear thin socks with these boots if you are not a fan of all the cutouts.
I think this outfit is a good example of how to do all neutrals, especially blacks and greys, right. Layering different textures adds to it’s intrigue. Enjoy!
Are you a Dakota fan (both on screen and fashion wise)? What’s your favorite movie she’s been in so far? How do you feel about younger actresses taking on mature roles?

Hey Maria!
I have always been a huge fan of Dakota Fanning. She plays some insane roles for being as young as she is…it’s cool to see someone that young & talented go out there and do what they really love.
How it going in Cali this weekend?! FL is still so cold. Will you be at Ad:Tech?

It’s finally not raining everyday here, but definitely still fah-reezing! I most likely will be at Ad Tech, but it MIGHT be on the same night as my Muse concert, so once Jony gives me details I’ll know for sure. Will you be there? I’d love to meet up!

I love Dakota! One of my favorite roles was her character in the movie Push (though the movie wasn’t amazing) it was the first movie I saw that she wasn’t playing a young child, but a younger teen. I was happy to see that she would not be one of the many child actors that get lost during their awkward teen years.

I just watched “Man on Fire” for the first time last week and Dakota Fanning was incredible! You need to see that movie if you haven’t yet.
