One of the hottest trends this season is the paper bag waist. Reminiscent of early 1900s hobos, the waist is created by excess fabric cinched together by a belt or tie. You can find this trend in skirts, shorts, and trouser pants. What sets it apart from normal pleats is the fabric that overflows around the waist, making it ultra feminine and emphasizing an hourglass shape. Here are a few of my favorite examples:

The best way to wear these pieces are with close fitting tops. Anything baggy would lose the waist’s effect, and result in a sloppy look. Enjoy!

Thanks! It’s interesting how what used to be considered low end or unfashionable takes on a different meaning these days. Just think about denim, cotton, tanning, etc.
