We all fell in love with Audrey Tautou as the quirky Amelie, but her talent has only cultivated and blossomed as seen in her 2009 portrayal of Coco Chanel in Coco Before Chanel. Predictably the amount of beautiful garments in the movie are endless, but one of my favorite outfits Audrey wears is a simple sailor stripe piece. Today I’ll show you how to get this trendy and classic look for less:
From left to right: Urban Outfitters puff sleeved shirt, $28; J Crew striped top $32.50; Anchor necklace, etsy.com seller CharmStar, $26; Urban Outfitters braided belt, $18
Look for stripey shirts that have interesting shapes such as this UO puff sleeved shirt. Accessorize with sailor inspired pieces.
From left to right: Urban Outfitters BDG Slim Straight jeans, $39; Urban Outfitters Cooperative Chambray Pants, $54; Urban Outfitters BDG Skinny cord pant $29
I’m in love with wearing your jeans and trousers folded like this. I also love these cord pants that have a higher-waisted fit. Comfy, slouchy pants like these look great with sailor stripes.
Clockwise from the top: Urban Outfitters Swiss Dot Oxford, $38; DSW Not Rated studded heels, $44.95; DSW Unisa Isla leather flat, $29.94; Urban Outfitters Seychells Scallop heel, $98 (splurge)
I love each of these looks, from boat inspired flats to cut-out heels, to rocker-chic studs and feminine dots. Each add an interesting element to an otherwise fairly basic outfit. Which style of shoes best fits your tastes?
Real life inspiration: Erin from Calivintage Blog; a great blog for those of us who love vintage/thrifting! She also has an etsy store filled with amazing vintage finds.
Are you a fan of the stripe? Do you think it’s true that only certain body types can wear horizontal stripes? Such a traditional, classy look will be returning full swing, so make sure to own at least one stripey shirt in your closet! Enjoy!

I have been a huge fan of Audrey Tautou’s since Amélie. I was so excited when I caught the trailer to Coco Before Chanel. Unfortunately, when it made it’s way to theaters I was ill. I will probably own the DVD of Coco Before Chanel (like I do of Amélie).
Huge fan of Coco + read several biographies on her life. One of my favorite quotes of Coco’s….
“When accessorizing, always take off the last thing you put on” – Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel

My sister’s sense of style has really influenced mine, and I’ve stolen many a pieces from her closet (especially when she leaves things behind when she goes back to Florida!). But she definitely has more sophisticated taste than my own; I prefer a more rock and roll aesthetic while she’s a classic beauty.
I would love to see your website! I’ll shoot you an email soon:)
