A little inspiration from the runways…

While many of the outfits that walk down the runway would be impossible to wear for most of us, they do provide a good source of inspiration when it comes to our own wardrobes. In particular, I like to observe how certain shapes and pieces are put together as well as what colors are popular this season.

Elise Overland is a Norwegian born womenswear designer whose rock and roll ties (she designed costumes for Aerosmith while still in design school) lend to a tough take on femininity.  What I love about her Fall Ready to Wear 2009 show are the rich hues, leather overload, and textural blends galore. Take note ladies on how to mix and match pieces successfully:

For men, I love Burberry Prorsum as a muse. Burberry was founded all the way back in 1856 and was originally a sturdy outerwear line. While their outerwear still serves as a base for their designs, Burberry has taken on a punk/luxury (contradiction? I think not!) image and has remained prevalent in the fashion world for over a century.

Note how all four images use a basic black trouser as the base for each outfit. Mix it up with different accessories and textures to achieve these looks. Enjoy!
